Mad Max: Fury Road- The Splendid Angarad (INFJ)

(Taken from my main blog, Recognizable Fruits.)

Introverted Intuition- Angharad is an independent young woman who is able to remain steadfastly idealistic despite her captivity. She has one strong vision: get herself and her sisters out of their gilded cage as sex slaves and into the far-off Green Place, where they may live peacefully in freedom. She never wavers from this goal, but when things get difficult, she reminds herself, as a mantra, “We’re going to the Green Place… We’re going to the Green Place of many mothers.” Angharad often speaks symbolically. Before the Wives make their escape, she writes powerful,  rather poetic messages on the floor and wall (“WHO KILLED THE WORLD?”; “OUR BABIES WILL NOT BE WAR LORDS”; “WE ARE NOT THINGS”) of the vault the women had always been locked in, forcing Joe to see her refusal to be caged up as the pet of a brutal man for life, and later repeats the same “Then who killed the world?!” to Nux when he insists he and Joe’s men weren’t the ones who destroyed civilization.

Extroverted Feeling- Though she’d lived a very oppressed life, Angharad never once lashes out at anyone even when they cause her problems. She reminds kind to others and is very protective of the other Wives, who she acts as a role model to and representative for, and also Furiosa. She greatly values harmony and wishes to avoid conflict whenever possible. She calmly walks over to Max to give him the water hose as he wishes while he has a gun pointed at her (and later holds no grudges against him for injuring her, even smiling at the thumbs-up he gives her save of the War Rig). Part of the deal Angharad makes with Furiosa when the latter helps the Wives escape? “No unnecessary killing!” She stops Furiosa from killing Nux, asserting that “He’s just a kid at the end of his half-life!” Even though she wants him out of the picture, she has the empathy to know how sad the life of a War Boy is as well.

Introverted Thinking- Angharad has no proof the Green Place exists, but the idea itself is enough inspiration for her to try to escape. She knows the Wives will make it there. Angharad often shows emotion, but is also fairly calm and logical. She dislikes violence and conflict, but she realizes some fighting is necessary to protect themselves and to attain their goal. She protects Nux from being killed (out of defense) at the hands of Furiosa, but she also is able to detach herself from being too lenient with him, allowing him to be thrown out of the truck to keep him from taking the women back.

Extroverted Sensing- Angharad is very quick-thinking in the midst of trouble and encourages others to take action as well, allowing herself even pregnant to be reckless at times. She immediately yanks Max’s chain to keep him off ofFuriosa and gets the other girls to help her. When Immortan Joe is about to shoot Furiosa, Angharad quickly opens to the door of the car and directly plants herself in Furiosa’s way to protect her.

Mad Max: Fury Road- The Dag (ISFP)

I had forgotten to post this before I submitted it to Funky MBTI, but oh well. The Dag is tied with Cheedo for my favorite character in the movie! We also have the same MBTI type. I initially thought she was INFP because of her dreamy nature but realized I was doing the very thing I often complain about: typing based on stereotypes. INFPs are not more dreamy or imaginative than Sensors and ISFPs are just as, if not more, imaginative for our eye for beauty and attention to detail.

Introverted Feeling (Fi): The Dag is very in tune with her emotions, has strong convictions she doesn’t let go of, and though she doesn’t open up to outsiders easily, she is very honest about how she feels. She has a deep sense of self that years of captivity and sexual abuse can’t waver. Very private and calm, she is still full of fire- kicking the chastity belt on the ground and spitting on it before running to catch up with the others, or snipping at those who don’t match up with her moral code. She initially resents Max, a strange outsider who planned to take the women back to Joe, interfering (until he proves he’s trustworthy to her later). She is something of an idealist disillusioned with the broken world, telling the Vuvalini she admired, “Thought somehow you girls were above all that” when told the Many Mothers aren’t above killing.

Extroverted Sensing (Se): Dag quietly sizes up her surroundings with her excellent observational skills. She is quick to notice things- the approaching war fleets both times. She becomes fascinated with the Keeper of the Seed’s story of the past abundance of nature on earth and takes an interest in the bag of seeds she keeps, eventually saving them to plant at the Citadel. She is quick to use opportunities when presented to them, such as pretending to be too weak to cut Max’s chain to distract him or biting Nux. Dag doesn’t seem to like sitting still long, often grabbing someone’s hand or making gestures if she must. She’s quick to adapt and jump onto new plans, agreeing with the idea to go back to the Citadel, knowing it has the necessary resources for a new life. She subtly decorates herself, covering her fingers in unique tattoos, often changing her hairstyle, and is one of the only Wives to choose to wear boots with an otherwise flimsy outfit.
Introverted Intuition (Ni): The Dag is very dreamy and imaginative, expressing herself in poetic ways nobody but she can understand. She looks for faith of some kind. She prays to “anyone who’s listening” and is determined to find the Green Place to get away from the violence she had been surrounded by. She immediately senses a kindred spirit in the Keeper of the Seeds and knows that they’ll be able to thrive at the Citadel should they successfully take it over. She is sure her baby will be “ugly” since Joe is a sickly tyrant himself, until the Keeper points out there’s just as good a chance it could be a girl.
Extroverted Thinking (Te): Though she almost never uses this function, Dag wants control over her own life and isn’t afraid to go out into the world to achieve her freedom, knowing the cons of such an attempt out in the Wasteland. She is quick to bluntly express her opinions to others as well.
